New Addition to Presbytery Camp, Kirkmont

CABENT

With the leadership and initial contribution of funds from members, Northminster Presbyterian Church has undertaken to underwrite the cost and complete the construction of a new addition to our Presbytery's camp and conference center, Kirkmont.

Deteriorating platform tents are being replaced by a new design: a Cabent (a combination Cabin/Tent).  Cabents are permanent wooden structures with solid floors, half walls and a shingled roof.  Canvas curtains are used in season for privacy and weather-proofing, providing campers that 'tent-like' experience.
  
Each Cabent contains 10-12 bunk-style beds. The photos you find posted above show some of the volunteers working to complete Northminster's Cabent. Under the able leadership of Paul Good and with the help of various others, many hours of labor will result in a summer dedication of our contribution to this new Kirkmont project.

Photos below exhibit glimpses of our Annual Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale. Each year this major event in the community draws large numbers to enjoy crafts, food, and a great time anticipating the upcoming Christmas celebration (there's even a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus!)

The Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale is held annually the first Saturday in November. At this event you will find:

• Hand-crafted items
• Christmas decorations
• Wreaths
• Stitchery
• And much, much more

Raffles will include:

• A full-size quilt
• Christmas wall hanging
• Musical bear
• Decorated Indian Dolls

A pancake breakfast and lunch are usually served on the day of the bazaar. (call the office at 937-399-0838 for further details).

Special events that we look forward to that are annual experiences in the life of our church are:

October	The day of Renewal (a day-long event for Older Adults)
November	The Christmas Bazaar
December	The Children's Christmas Pageant and Candlelight Service
March	Day of reflection (a daytime program during Lent)

June	Deacon's Church Picnic

Other special events include the monthly programs offered by the Visionaries--an active program for Older Adults. They have included….

Intergenerational Events—for all ages—have been designed to explore the meanings of our church season of Advent and Lent. Creating crafts for fund raisers and banners to adorn our church are included in these events.

Joint services of worship are held each year with other Presbyterian congregations in Springfield, as we gather to celebrate Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Easter Sonrise together.
